Today we will share some interesting facts that can save you serious losses in the silage pit. We will also show real experiments with the strength of different types of foil, as well as what is the secret of well-protected silage.
Before that, we will also introduce you to the person who told us all the important details. We had Ross Murray from Silostop Agri as our guest, with whom we toured several farms and introduced the farmers to the power of protective film.
He shared with us the basic and most important rule when choosing a protection, namely that it should protect the silage and the surface layer from the appearance of mycotoxins and molds, as well as from the loss of dry matter.
Many Silostop customers report that after switching to oxygen barrier (OB) foil, they are able to feed virtually all of their silage. This means less wasted feed and less clean-up time before feeding. Oxygen barrier films minimize dry matter losses in the top layer. So not only is there no spoiled layer to throw away, but you also have more quality feed from the start.
During the farm visits, we tested the strength of different foils in real conditions and the differences were clearly visible.

Tests have also been carried out at Silostop Agri which show that the use of their foils can reduce waste (slag) by up to 42% in the upper layer of the silage pit.
The foil acts as an effective barrier against oxygen, limiting its penetration into the silage. This creates better conditions for fermentation and helps preserve nutrients.
In addition, the protection system includes not only foil, but also additional solutions such as protective coatings and clamping bags, which contribute to an even better result.
The result for farmers is clear:
✔️ less spoiled silage
✔️ better quality
✔️ less waste and higher efficiency
Increasingly, the conversations today revolve around one thing – how to preserve as much as possible of what we have already produced.
We are happy to have had the opportunity to host this fruitful and inspiring training and to be of service to all the farmers who trust us on a daily basis. Thanks to Ross Murray for the valuable information and shared experience.
The season is starting - it's time to think about how you will protect your silage.
