The farm is full of stories – if you only listen. Some of them sound almost like fairy tales, others like science facts with a wink. But they all remind us of one thing: when we care with care, we get more. Not only production, but also trust.

We share with you some fun and interesting facts from the animal world:

Named cows give more milk

Research by Newcastle University (2009) shows that cows treated with personal attention by farmers – using names, petting them, talking to them – give an average of 258 litres more milk per year.

The reason? Lower stress levels and higher levels of oxytocin – the caregiving and bonding hormone.

A little "cuddle" = more cappuccino!

Donkey - the local rock singer

Did you know that donkeys can be heard from 3 kilometers away? Yes, a donkey bray reaches 100 decibels – as loud as a rock concert.

This is not a whim - they use it to communicate with other donkeys over long distances, especially in hilly areas.

If the donkey brays, it can be heard all the way from the neighboring village.

For comparison:

  • Truck idling (5 m) – ~90–95 dB
  • Concert or club – ~100–110 dB
  • Construction hammer - ~100 dB

Teeth without rest

Rabbits have incisors and molars that grow throughout their lives. This is their adaptation to constant chewing of coarse food.

If they don't chew something constantly, they risk serious health problems.
They are not gluttons - they are simply driven by dental biology!

Cows taste… better than you

Cows have between 25,000 and 35,000 taste buds – more than our roughly 10,000. They taste sweet, sour, salty and bitter, but… they like sweet things the most, like corn.

With so many receptors, the cow can really sense when her feed is 'crunchier than usual'.

Goats understand your mood

Research from Queen Mary University (2018) shows that goats prefer smiling human faces. Not only that, they develop "accents" in their sounds according to the herd, similar to local dialects.
Yes, goats "speak" differently depending on who they live with!

The Rooster – a gentleman with an appetite

In the coop there is a clear hierarchy known as the pecking order. Roosters often offer food to hens as a courtship or dominance gesture.

But... if they are too hungry, they might peck first.
Gentlemen - but not at any cost.

These strange facts remind us that animals are complex, sensitive and intelligent creatures. And when we understand and respect them - they thank us many times.

At HL-TopMix, we believe that a good farm is built not only with feed, but also with attitude.
Every cow, every goat, every donkey - deserves attention. And fodder to feed both body and confidence.
